It’s inevitable that we all become stressed in our day-to-day lives, but how we lessen that stress is the key to our health! In this post I wanted to discuss keeping your life- your closet in particular- decluttered to make you feel relaxed and less tense.

First things first you need to get rid of some of those clothes that have been sitting in your closet for months or even years without being worn. I know what you’re thinking, “My aunt Betty bought me that sweater when she was in Australia, I can’t throw it away!” or “I spent a lot of money on that, I will wear it one day.”

LISTEN! It’s not helping anyone especially yourself, having items of clothing sit in your closet taking up space is no good. So here’s some tricks that you may want to try to keep your closet looking its best while making you feel relaxed in the end.

5 STEPS TO GET YOU A CLEANER CLOSET:

  • If you have the extra space, organize your closet by dividing it up into summer and winter. Move your winter clothes into boxes, storage containers or a different closet until that season comes back then switch it out.
  • Organize your clothes based upon items: Shirts together, sweaters together, blazers, jeans, and so on and so forth.
  • After that try to group similar colours together at first glance, your closet looks neat. This trick may even fool your brain into thinking it’s tidier than it is!
  • As the picture suggests above, hang all your hangers, so the opening of the hanger loop is towards the wall. Before you return the article of clothing you wore to your closet take that hanger and turn it around, so the opening of the loop faces towards you. If there are hangers still facing towards the wall away from you after three months, those pieces have to go.
  • Give the clothes you don’t wear away to your friends and family, Goodwill, or a consignment store for extra cash. If you have business attire, contact  Suit Yourself and make an appointment to drop off your clothing donation. It’s a great way to give back to your community and help others who are trying to make a change in their lives. In the end, your closet may feel empty BUT you now have room for new pieces!

You will also have room for new pieces! 😉
